ST. LOUIS (AP) — More torrential rain worsened flooding in the Midwest Tuesday, spawning high water that swept away an Iowa teenager, caused a traffic nightmare near one of the nation's busiest airports and threatened to swamp a Missouri town for the fifth time in less than a decade.

More than 3 inches of rain fell over much of the upper Midwest Monday night and Tuesday morning, capping a week of heavy downpours.

By the weekend, the Mississippi River will be at major flood stage in many Iowa, Illinois and Missouri communities.

A busy interstate near O'Hare International Airport in Chicago was flooded. Rescue crews continued searching for a 17-year-old swept into a storm sewer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. And in Clarksville, Missouri, the town has no money to pay for sandbagging.
