HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The University of Connecticut has begun disciplinary proceedings against a professor and a former dean faulted for not taking stronger action after learning the professor had been accused of sexually abusing children.

UConn says it notified music professor Robert Miller and former dean David Woods on Thursday that it intends to fire them.

An independent investigation released Wednesday had concluded that Miller engaged in misconduct and violations of school policy, including inviting students to overnight parties involving alcohol.

The investigation began after allegations that Miller abused children in the 1960s and 1990s became more widely known. It said officials including Woods knew of the allegations as early as 2003 without taking action.

Miller has not been charged with a crime. He and Woods haven't responded to messages left by The Associated Press.
