PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities are investigating an anonymous social media account that they say had been identifying witnesses in violent Philadelphia crimes with the stated intention of trying to "expose rats."

The Philadelphia Inquirer says (http://bit.ly/1abk873 ) the "rats215" account on the photo-sharing app Instagram had posted photos, police statements and testimony identifying more than 30 witnesses since February.

Instagram isn't saying whether it took down the account, but a spokeswoman says community guidelines don't allow content that bullies or harasses. She also says Instagram encourages people to report such content using a built-in tool next to every photo or video posted on Instagram.

Lt. John Walker says Philadelphia police learned of the account last week and investigators are now working to identify the accountholder.
