BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — A jury is deliberating the case of a coastal Georgia man charged with killing his father and seven extended family members inside their mobile home four years ago.
The jury of eight women and four men began weighing evidence against Guy Heinze Jr. on Wednesday afternoon after hearing closing arguments from prosecutors and defense attorneys. Heinze could be sentenced to death if he's convicted of murder in the Aug. 29, 2009, slayings just outside Brunswick.
Prosecutors say Heinze clubbed all eight victims to death in the middle of the night, likely using a shotgun barrel, after getting into a fight when he tried to take a bottle of prescription painkillers.
Defense attorneys have said police ignored evidence and alternate suspects in a rush to build a case against Henize.
