How the Dow fared on Thursday

The stock market soared Thursday after Republican leaders and President Barack Obama finally seemed willing to end a 10-day budget standoff that has threatened to leave the U.S. unable to pay its bills.

The rally helped erase nearly all of the market's losses earlier this week.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 323.09 points, or 2.2 percent, to close at 15,126.07.

The S&P 500 gained 36.16 points, or 2.2 percent, to 1,692.56.

The Nasdaq composite jumped 82.97 points, or 2.3 percent, to 3,760.75.

For the week:

The Dow is up 53.49 points, or 0.4 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 2.06 points, or 0.1 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 47 points, or 1.23 percent.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 2,021.93 points, or 15.4 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 266.37 points, or 18.7 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 741.24 points, or 24.6 percent.
