Reasons a dog or cat might be returned to shelter

Despite the best efforts of shelters to find good homes for pets, about 10 percent of adoptions don't work out and the dogs or cats are returned. Here is a sampling of reasons cited by several shelters for returned pets, ranging from fathomable to far-fetched.

— Moving or lifestyle changes.

— Allergies.

— Lost job, house or loved one.

— Doesn't get along with other pets.
