PHILADELPHIA (AP) — An unlicensed doctor who went on trial with rogue abortion provider Kermit Gosnell has been sentenced to house arrest for her work at his Philadelphia clinic.
Dr. Eileen O'Neill did not perform abortions, but treated mostly geriatric patients.
Prosecutors say she held herself out as a doctor, while the defense says she was training under Gosnell while seeking a Pennsylvania medical license.
O'Neill has been sentenced Monday to six to 23 months of house arrest at her Phoenixville home, where she cares for an elderly mother.
Defense lawyer James Berardinelli says O'Neill will likely never practice medicine again, given convictions for theft and conspiracy.
He says the 56-year-old O'Neill had been manipulated by Gosnell.
The 72-year-old Gosnell is serving life without parole for killing three babies born alive.
