DETROIT (AP) — Jurors in the trial of a Detroit police officer accused in the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old girl during a raid on her home have watched video of that raid.
The video was recorded by a crew from a reality TV show, "The First 48," which was tagging along with officers that night in May 2010 as they searched for a murder suspect. After a stun grenade was thrown inside the home, Officer Joseph Weekley's gun fired, striking Aiyana Stanley-Jones as she slept on a couch.
Weekley is charged with involuntary manslaughter. His attorney says it was an accident, not a crime.
Officer LaTonya Brooks testified Tuesday that detectives didn't want the TV crew at the scene.
