Stocks rise in midday trading on Wall Street

NEW YORK (AP) — Indexes are moving higher in midday trading on Wall Street, led by an advance in small-company stocks.

A survey released Tuesday by the National Federation of Independent Business found that small business owners were slightly more optimistic in April.

That helped send the Russell 2000 index of small company stocks up 1 percent, more than other stock market indexes.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 76 points at 15,167 at noon Eastern Daylight Time, a gain of 0.5 percent.

The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 13 points to 1,647, or 0.8 percent.
