In Fla., home signs warn of presence of predators

STARKE, Fla. (AP) — Law enforcement officials in some Florida counties are taking an extra step to ensure residents are notified about the presence of sexual predators in their neighborhoods.

The Bradford County Sheriff's Office has become the latest law enforcement agency in the state to begin posting signs outside the homes of convicted sex predators to alert neighbors of their presence and crimes.

The signs have been praised by many residents, but some question whether the new measure reaches too far and could be considered harassment against people who have served jail terms and already must submit to a public registry after their release.

Bradford County officials say that are working within the discretion afforded by state statute to further inform the public.
