What connects the new pope with Diego Maradona?
Both are Argentines who have felt the "hand of God," soccer fans around the world jokingly reflected.
Many took to Twitter to make the reference to Maradona's historic goal in an Argentina vs England game in 1986, which he scored by using his hand. Argentina went on to win the match 2-1 thanks to a second goal he scored, but that first goal has gone down as one of the most famous and controversial moments in soccer history.
That match was clearly on the mind of the editors at British tabloid the Daily Mirror, which ran a picture of Pope Francis raising a hand alongside the headline "The new hand of God."
