Gas fires hit NJ shore town, no injuries reported

BRICK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — A series of natural gas fires broke out in a New Jersey shore town that was hit hard by Sandy, but officials say no one was injured.

Video from WNBC-TV in New York showed flames reaching over the Curtis Point section of Brick Township early Wednesday. There was a large cluster of flames and smaller fires spread out from it.

Ocean County spokesman Rich Peterson says the gas lines that were burning were from homes that had been destroyed during this week's storm. Firefighters could not reach the scene because of debris from the storm.

An official with the Ocean County Emergency Management Office earlier said the homes had been hit by fires when Sandy was pounding the affluent town. Peterson could not verify the earlier fires.
