MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say Tropical Storm Olivia is strengthening over open waters in the eastern Pacific but poses no threat to land.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said late Saturday evening that Olivia was about 925 miles (1489 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California peninsula. Maximum sustained winds were at 50 mph (80 kph), and it was moving westward at 10 mph (16 kph).
Olivia is expected to make a northwest turn during the next few days. It could become a hurricane by Monday.
The eastern Pacific hurricane season ends Nov. 30.
