NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are higher at midday after a couple of encouraging reports on the economy.
The Conference Board says consumer confidence has risen to 70.3. That's up from 61.3 in August and the highest since February.
A separate report on the housing market finds that prices rose in 20 major cities in July from June.
Just before noon, the Dow Jones industrial average is up 48 points at 13,607. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up five at 1,462. And the Nasdaq composite index is up 13 at 3,174.
