No perjury charges after Calif priest's testimony

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Prosecutors say they won't be filing perjury charges against a retired priest who testified at the trial of a Northern California man accused of assaulting him.

The decision involving Jerold Lindner was disclosed Wednesday, even though prosecutors say they believe he lied under oath when he denied molesting William Lynch.

Lynch was accused of beating the priest, who Lynch claimed had molested him during a 1975 camping trip. Lynch was acquitted in the case.

Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen says prosecutors will not charge Lindner because his testimony did not influence the outcome of Lynch's trial.

Lindner has never been charged over the sexual assault allegation.
