Saginaw Valley players suspended after allegations

KOCHVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A former Saginaw Valley State football player has told police he was the victim of sexual abuse by veteran teammates after refusing to participate in a team singing tradition.

A 25-page police report obtained by MLive.com through the Freedom of Information Act details an investigation into the 17-year-old's claim.

He alleges that teammates asked him if he was going to sing at dinner, and after he said no, they surrounded him in the locker room and some touched him with their genitals.

He has since left the university. All names in the report are redacted.

Head coach Jim Collins suspended five players for Saturday's season-opening game, citing a violation of team rules. The university says the players were the subject of a criminal investigation.

Prosecutors declined comment on the investigation.
