PITTSBURGH (AP) — Attorneys for three white Pittsburgh police officers accused of wrongfully arresting and beating a young black man ridiculed his version of the January 2010 incident — in particular the black man's claim that he didn't realize the plainclothes officers were police until uniformed officers showed up, too.

Defense attorney James Wymard sarcastically referred to his client and two other officers as the "three white mystery men" when cross-examining 20-year-old Jordan Miles.

Miles testified for most of the day Thursday in the trial of his federal civil rights lawsuit against the three officers. Miles says he ran away and struggled with the officers — who claim they thought Miles was an armed prowler — because they didn't identify themselves as police.

Miles is suing the officers alleging wrongful arrest, excessive force and malicious prosecution.
