(Reuters) - BP Plc reported ongoing emissions of sulfur dioxide at its 225,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Cherry Point, Washington, refinery, according to a filing with the U.S. National Response Center.

The flaring at the refinery was first reported on May 9 due to the shutdown of the central crude distillation unit.

Sources familiar with refinery operations said the unit failed to restart on Thursday because of problems during its return to service after a three-month shutdown for repairs.
