Edison CEO: No timeline on reopening of nuke plant

Edison International's chairman and CEO is offering no hint as to when the idled San Onofre nuclear plant might come back online.

The Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/IfKFpm) says Ted Craver briefly addressed the equipment problems at the company's annual shareholders meeting Thursday in San Gabriel.

Craver says excessive wear has been found in less than one percent of the plant's nearly 39,000 steam generator tubes.

He says once the cause of the wear is known, the affected tubes will be removed from service and some "operational changes" will be made.

The plant has been offline for more than three months. Craver says it's possible that one or both units will remain that way through the summer and contingency plans are in the works.

Some 7.4 million Californians live within 50 miles of San Onofre, which can power 1.4 million homes.
