Police have identified the two men hit and killed by a cargo train chugging over a trestle in an upstate New York village as half brothers. A third brother was seriously hurt.
Westfield village police Sgt. Brent Burgess tells the Erie Times-News on Saturday that 25-year-old Brian Reed, of Westfield, and 20-year-old Justin Halpainy-Livermore, of Jamestown, were killed Friday night on the tracks.
Twenty-six-year-old Benjamin Reed suffered broken bones and head injuries.
Burgess tells the newspaper that the Reeds are brothers, and Halpainy-Livermore is their half brother.
Police say the brothers were standing together in the middle of the tracks when a train approached. Witnesses tell police that the men tried outrunning the train. Burgess says the tracks run over a deep gorge and the brothers couldn't jump.
