Occupy SF protesters arrested in vacant building

San Francisco police have arrested nearly 80 Occupy protesters who had taken over an empty building and apparently planned to stay there long-term.

The San Francisco Chronicle (http://bit.ly/Hc1ZqA) reports that officers in riot gear stormed the two-story building around 1:15 p.m. Monday after breaking through a barricade the activists had built.

Police say no one was injured during the arrests.

The building is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of San Francisco and had recently been used as a music education facility. The protesters entered the structure Sunday after holding a rally and march nearby.

Activists say they believe the building should be used as a center for health services and education.

The takeover was the first major action by Occupy San Francisco since the dismantling of an Embarcadero encampment in December.
