Immigration rally blocks Phoenix road; 6 arrested

Phoenix police arrested six people at an intersection during a rally protesting Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's (ar-PY'-ohs) immigration policies.

The protesters included high school and colleges students and began on a street corner at 75th Avenue and Cheery Lynn Street but moved onto 75th Avenue and blocked it, which made it illegal.

Police say the protesters were told to leave by 5:30 p.m. A line of officers then approached the protesters in the road and started taking some into custody one by one.

The six arrested for obstructing a thoroughfare and disorderly conduct included two girls, ages 16 and 17, two 20-year-old women, an 18-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man.
