KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) - At least one person was killed and more than a dozen injured when powerful tornadoes ripped through Missouri and Kansas late Tuesday, damaging homes, churches and buildings across the area, authorities said.
The death occurred when the storm swept through a mobile home park in rural Buffalo, Mo., said Lamont Swanson, coroner for Dallas County. He did not release more information on the victim, but said 13 others were hurt when the tornado struck.
"There was very extensive damage in that trailer park," Swanson said. "I saw one residence completely destroyed."
Damage was also reported in Branson, an entertainment destination in southwest Missouri.
