Delaware governor spares life of murderer

(Reuters) - Delaware Governor Jack Markell on Tuesday spared the life of convicted murderer Robert Gattis, who was facing execution, commuting his death sentence to life in prison.

Markell said he acted on the 4-1 recommendation of the Board of Pardons to take Gattis off Death Row and instead keep him behind bars without the possibility of parole.
