RI sentencing postponed for Ga. man in Navy case

A Rhode Island sentencing for a Georgia man involved in a kickbacks scheme authorities say cost the Navy between $7 million and $20 million has been postponed.

A judge Wednesday approved a request by federal prosecutors to delay for four month the sentencing of Patrick Barry Nagle. The 51-year-old Marietta, Ga., resident will now learn his punishment July 9.

Nagle is cooperating with authorities as part of a plea agreement. Prosecutors say they sought the delay because they need Nagle's help beyond his original sentencing date.

Nagle pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to commit bribery. Prosecutors say he made payments on invoices that were inflated by subcontractors given Navy work by his firm, Advanced Solutions for Tomorrow. The company is now defunct.
