A New York City police officer credited with capturing a man accused of killing his partner has been promoted to detective.
Glenn Estrada received the promotion Friday during a New York Police Department ceremony. It follows the posthumous promotion of Officer Peter Figoski, who also was made a detective.
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says the partners had interrupted a home invasion targeting a small-time drug dealer in Brooklyn on Dec. 12 when Figoski was shot in the face. He says Estrada pursued the shooter on foot and made the arrest.
Five men are facing murder charges in the case.
Figoski was a divorced father of four daughters. Thousands of police officers turned out for his funeral this week on Long Island.
