2 face discipline in search for missing Ga. girl

A sheriff says a deputy and a trainee are facing discipline for failing to report seeing what appeared to be blood during the search for a missing 7-year-old north Georgia girl who later was found dead.

Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison told WSB-TV on Wednesday that the day after Jorelys Rivera disappeared, the two searched an empty apartment and said it was clear. He says they didn't report seeing a trace of blood and that the apartment turned out to be where the girl was killed.

Sheriff's Lt. Jay Baker confirms the station's report to The Associated Press.

Jorelys disappeared on Dec. 2 after leaving a playground at the apartment complex. Her body was found three days later in a trash bin.

A 20-year-old maintenance worker has been charged in her killing.
