SEATTLE (Reuters) - At least one military helicopter was reported to have crashed, with possible deaths, at a Washington state military base near Tacoma during training exercises, a base spokeswoman said on Monday.
Brendalyn Carpenter, a spokeswoman for Joint Base Lewis-McChord, confirmed that "there was an accident" involving at least one helicopter around 9:15 p.m. local time and military police and emergency personnel were en route to the accident scene.
"I don't have any details," she said, asked to confirm local media reports that two helicopters had crashed. Local media have reported a preliminary death toll of between four and eight people, but that could not be immediately confirmed.
