The former aide who rushed to help U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords after she was shot last January is starting his own career in politics.
Daniel Hernandez is scheduled to attend his first board meeting Tuesday of the Tucson-area Sunnyside Unified School District Governing Board.
He tells The Arizona Republic ( http://bit.ly/sYR4lA) his two passions are community service and education.
Hernandez says he brings a unique perspective and can speak to some of the unheard of needs of students having graduated from the district.
He interning in Giffords' office and working at a constituent event outside a suburban Tucson supermarket when the congresswoman was shot in the head during a Jan. 8 shooting rampage.
