AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Bowie High School in Austin was on lockdown on Monday morning because a man being pursued by police had barricaded himself in a nearby house, officials said.
No one is allowed to enter or leave the south Austin school, said Helena Wright, a spokeswoman for Austin Independent School District.
The incident began as a stolen vehicle call, said Lisa Cortinas, a spokeswoman for the Austin Police Department. It turned into a pursuit, and shots were fired by police and sheriff's department officers, she said. She said it was unclear if the suspect fired shots or was shot.
