A medical examiner is trying to track down the relatives of 18 people whose cremated remains were found in an abandoned Pittsburgh funeral home.
Investigators said Monday they've identified the remains in 18 of 19 containers found last week. They say nine of those identified died between 1982 and 2001. It's unknown when the other half of those identified died or were cremated.
Police and the Allegheny County medical examiner's office searched the Sauvageot (sah-VAH'-gee-oh) Funeral Home on Friday. The building had been boarded up since about 2008. The state revoked the license of funeral director Mark Sauvageot, who left the city without explanation.
A phone listed for Sauvageot in Follansbee, W.Va., is disconnected.
Authorities aren't saying what might happen as the investigation unfolds and family members contact authorities.
