A car has run off a road and plunged into a brook in upstate New York, killing a woman and the 7-year-old grandson she was driving to school.
State police say 75-year-old Theresa Caito and Henry Caito were reported missing Wednesday morning in their hometown, Jay, about 120 miles north of Albany. They say searchers found the woman's car submerged in a brook leading to the Ausable River, in the Adirondack Mountains.
Rescuers used a cable to pull the car out of the water. They freed the grandmother and the boy and tried to resuscitate them. Both later were pronounced dead at hospitals.
Troopers say they don't know how the accident happened.
