The Obama administration is putting a bomb maker for a Lebanese militant group on its terrorism blacklist, subjecting him to U.S. sanctions.
The State Department said Tuesday it had added Ibrahim Suleiman (su-LAY'-mahn) Hamad Al-Hablain, also known as Abu Jabal, to its list of specially designated global terrorists. He is an explosives expert and operative for the Lebanese group the Abdullah Azzam Brigades, which has claimed responsibility for numerous bombings and rocket attacks on Israel, the department said.
The move freezes any assets Abu Jabal may have in U.S. jurisdictions and bars Americans from any financial dealings with him. A Saudi citizen, Abu Jabal is wanted by Saudi Arabia for participating in extremist activities abroad.
