Three teenage children of a Philadelphia woman charged with abusing mentally disabled adults and locking them in a squalid basement are in state custody outside the city.
A lawyer describes 51-year-old Linda Weston's children as bright and well-mannered. Their father is 47-year-old co-defendant Gregory Thomas.
Lawyer Karen Deanna Williams represents Weston in Family Court. She says the teens are living together outside Philadelphia, where they're less likely to hear distressing allegations against their parents.
She says the placements are temporary but could prove permanent if Weston is convicted.
Weston, Thomas and others are charged with locking up disabled adults to take their Social Security checks. They haven't entered pleas.
KYW-AM first reported on Monday's closed-door hearing in Family Court. The whereabouts of five other children found living with the suspects last month remains unclear.
