A federal judge has sentenced a former NASA employee in Ohio to 14 months in prison for illegally shipping night-vision rifle scope equipment to South Korean companies.
The judge also ordered 67-year-old Kue Sang Chun of Avon Lake to serve two years' probation after his release. The Plain Dealer reports Chun promised the judge he'd never again break the law.
Chun pleaded guilty January, admitting he exported defense items on the U.S. munitions list without federal approval and made a false income tax return.
The Korean-born U.S. citizen worked at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. Authorities say he wasn't accused of taking technology from the center.
His lawyer had argued Chun's actions did not harm or have the potential to harm the U.S. or its foreign interests.
