Late steel exec bestows more: $25M to Pa. college

A late steel executive has bestowed another huge donation: $25 million to a small western Pennsylvania college.

Thiel College officials announced the donation from the estate of William S. Dietrich II on Thursday. Dietrich's parents were alumni.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports ( that Dietrich's gift matches the school's annual budget.

The college in Greenville is about 80 miles north of Pittsburgh and has 1,100 students. It's the latest in a long list of western Pennsylvania institutions to benefit from Dietrich's philanthropy.

Before he died Oct. 6, Dietrich gave $265 million to Carnegie Mellon University and $125 million to the University of Pittsburgh.

Dietrich was born in Pittsburgh and grew a family business into the nation's largest manufacturer of light metal construction framing.
