A lawyer for a woman charged with killing a woman inside an upscale yoga clothing shop says his client "lost it" following an angry fight with her colleague.
Attorney Douglas Wood acknowledged during opening statements Wednesdays that Brittany Norwood killed Jayna Murray inside the Lululemon Athletica shop on the night of March 11.
But he told jurors that the killing lacked the premeditation to convict Norwood of first-degree murder, which could carry a sentence of life in prison without parole.
State's Attorney John McCarthy said Norwood attacked Murray with at least a half-dozen weapons found inside the shop, then doctored the crime scene to make it look like they had been attacked by two masked men.
McCarthy said Norwood told a series of lies in the week following the killing.
