Man accused of killing cousin deemed fit for trial

Nevada medical experts say a Las Vegas teenager is fit for trial on allegations that he suffocated a 6-year-old relative and killed a jail cellmate, then said the devil made him do it.

Court and jail records show that 19-year-old Carl Guilford was being held at the Clark County jail following his return from a psychiatric facility in Sparks. His mother told investigators her son is bipolar and has talked about angels, demons and "making sacrifices."

Deputy Clark County Public Defender Norm Reed tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal ( http://bit.ly/mREpoF) that Guilford has been deemed mentally competent for trial on two murder charges.

Guilford was arrested May 26 in the slaying of his 6-year-old second cousin. He is also accused of killing 39-year-old Francesco Sanfilippo on July 29 at the jail.
