Officer wrongly accused of shootings files lawsuit

A suburban Chicago police officer wrongly accused of a rural shooting spree in Illinois and Indiana has filed a federal lawsuit alleging he was framed.

Brian Dorian accuses the Will County, Ill., sheriff, state's attorney and a sheriff's detective of conspiring against him even though they knew he wasn't the gunman. The October 2010 shootings left one person dead and two others injured. Dorian is asking for more than $2 million.

County officials say the lawsuit "misrepresents" the investigation.

Police later said 48-year-old Gary Amaya of Rankin was the shooter. Amaya was killed with his own gun during an attempted robbery of a tanning salon in suburban Chicago.

The case drew national attention because the gunman was initially dubbed the "honeybee shooter" for talking to a victim about beekeeping.
