Disarmament group to call for nuclear club talks

An arms control group says 100 international leaders will call on the world's nuclear-armed nations to begin talks aimed at the elimination of nuclear weapons.

The Global Zero organization says the statement will come at the Reagan Library in California, during events starting Tuesday marking the 25th anniversary of a historic arms summit.

Former President Ronald Reagan and his Soviet counterpart Mikhail Gorbachev came close to an agreement to get rid of their arsenals in Reykjavik, Iceland, in 1986.

Former Secretary of State George Shultz, who was at the summit, will join those urging the world's nuclear club to begin disarmament talks.

Shultz said Saturday in an interview that that goal of a world free of nuclear weapons can be achieved.
