Demonstrators filled Freedom Plaza in Washington for a peaceful afternoon protest against war and other causes, including corporate greed.
The demonstrators on Thursday carried signs with messages such as "end the wars at home and abroad" and "no war (equals) no deficit." Friday marks the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan.
Other demonstrators lofted signs such as "tax the rich," mirroring the sentiments of Occupy Wall Street protests in New York and elsewhere nationwide that have focused on economic concerns.
Thursday's demonstration was organized by a group calling itself "October 2011." The group is separate from an Occupy D.C. group that has been protesting blocks away, though Occupy D.C. said it supported the demonstration.
