2 murder-suicides strike same Pennsylvania family

A Pennsylvania man who fatally shot his wife, his children and himself had another relative who recently died in a murder-suicide, a newspaper reported Tuesday.

Flo Vrabel told the Washington Observer-Reporter that her 42-year-old son, Kevin Teagarden, had grown worried about his marriage but also was upset about an Ohio cousin who died in a murder-suicide last week. Teagarden, his wife, and two children were found dead Sunday night.

Vrabel did not want to talk with an Associated Press reporter Tuesday.

Jeremiah Johnson, the brother of Mary Johnson, both cousins of Teagarden, told The Associated Press in a telephone interview that his sister was killed by her live-in boyfriend who then killed himself.

Johnson, of Seattle, said he got a call from his mother in Croton, Ohio, the night his sister died. He said he wasn't acquainted with the boyfriend but his sister had a habit of dating "doofuses and lowlifes." He said he didn't know Teagarden well.

Police said they weren't aware of previous trouble at the Teagarden home in Morgan Township, 35 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Greene County Coroner Gregory Rohanna said 40-year-old Tammy Teagarden, 8-year-old Madison, and 22-month-old Kevin Jr. were each killed Sunday by a single gunshot.

"All he wanted was his family to be with him," Vrabel told the newspaper.

Coroner Rohanna said he knew the family.

"No one saw this coming, and no one could imagine that violence could come to that household," he said.

A relative of Tammy Teagarden called police Sunday after going to the house because Tammy Teagarden failed to show up for work.
