Haitian President Michel Martelly says he's planning to return briefly to the stage during a December concert that he hopes will raise up to $10 million for his nation's schools.

The longtime performer and recording artist says Thursday that he hopes to persuade officials from the U.N. and the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic to buy tickets to the Dec. 23 event in Port-au-Prince that will briefly meld his past and present careers.

Martelly spoke in a Thursday interview with The Associated Press on the eve of his first address to the United Nations during its annual gathering of world leaders.

He says when he performs in December, it won't be as Haiti's president but as Sweet Micky _ his stage name.
