Tropical Storm Hilary forms in the Pacific

Tropical Storm Hilary has formed in the eastern Pacific south of Mexico.

Hilary has maximum sustained winds near 40 mph (65 kph). The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Hilary is expected to strengthen and could become a hurricane in a couple days.

Hilary is centered about 155 miles (245 kilometers) south of Puerto Escondido, Mexico, and is moving west-northwest near 5 mph (7 kph).

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Ophelia is getting stronger as it moves across the Atlantic. The storm's maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 kph). But the hurricane center says some weakening is expected during the next two days.

Ophelia is centered about 1,245 miles (2,005 kilometers) east of the Leeward Islands and is moving west near 16 mph (26 kph).
