Tropical storm conditions expected in Bermuda

Rain bands from Tropical Storm Maria are affecting Bermuda as the storm moves up the Atlantic.

Maria's maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph (100 kph) Thursday. The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the storm could become a hurricane later in the day, but weakening is expected after that.

A tropical storm warning and a hurricane watch are in effect for Bermuda. The hurricane center says Maria will quickly pass west of Bermuda on Thursday.

Maria is centered about 200 miles (325 kilometers) west-southwest of Bermuda and is moving north-northeast near 26 mph (43 kph).
