CA treasurer accused of theft to be released

A Democratic campaign accountant who faces fraud charges for allegedly siphoning off nearly $700,000 from a California candidate to pay her credit cards is being released on bond.

Lauren Horwood, a spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in Sacramento, said Kinde Durkee was going to be freed Friday on $200,000 bond and ordered to appear in court Oct. 19. It was unclear if Durkee had been released. An afterhours e-mail message left for her attorney, Daniel Nixon, wasn't immediately returned.

Durkee, who heads a firm in Burbank, Calif., was arrested last week for investigation of mail fraud. She's accused of shifting $677,000 out of state Assemblyman Jose Solorio's 2010 campaign to pay for an array of debts.

Durkee had authority over more than 400 bank accounts, including political campaigns.
