A defense lawyer says a 7-year-old Russian boy adopted by a Pennsylvania couple had numerous psychological disorders and could have caused the injuries that led to his death.
Attorney Gerald Lord represents Nanette Craver. She and her husband, Michael Craver, are charged with murder in the 2009 death of their son Nathaniel.
An autopsy found the boy was emaciated and had suffered more than 80 injuries.
The York Dispatch newspaper reported ( http://bit.ly/oywbev) that during the trial on Friday, Lord said Nathaniel suffered severe brain damage in Russia after being neglected at a hospital and orphanage.
Five of Nathaniel's preschool teachers also testified Friday. They said he always seemed happy to see his mother when she picked him up and she appeared concerned for his welfare.
