The New Orleans City Council has set a deadline of Sept. 12 for applications for an interim appointment to the at-large council seat being vacated by Arnie Fielkow.
The Times-Picayune reported ( http://bit.ly/q1hSOS) applicants can speak on their own behalf at a Sept. 15 meeting of the council's governmental affairs committee, though they will not be required to attend, according to procedures outlined by Council President Jackie Clarkson.
After the committee reviews the list, names of applicants determined to be qualified will be forwarded to the full council for consideration at its Sept. 22 meeting.
By law, the interim replacement will not be allowed to run for the seat.
Fielkow has announced he will resign on Oct. 1 to take a job with an organization for retired National Basketball Association players.
