A sheriff's corporal has been fired in an investigation of a fatal crash at a central Ohio intersection where a stop sign was concealed with petroleum jelly and plastic wrap.
The Pickaway County Sheriff's Office said Monday that dispatch employee Cpl. Kimberly Chapman received two calls about the sign being covered but didn't report it to the Department of Transportation.
Lt. John Monce says the calls came at 10:39 a.m. and 12:36 p.m. on Aug. 17. Police say 85-year-old Circleville resident Mary Spangler was killed in the crash about four hours later.
Authorities say two men covered the sign as a prank. The 18- and 19-year-old men have pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.
