Forecasters warn of possible severe Midwest weather

CHICAGO (Reuters) - Forecasters on Tuesday warned residents of Illinois and Indiana to brace for possibly severe afternoon weather as a cluster of powerful thunderstorms pushes eastward out of Iowa.

The National Weather Service issued a severe weather outlook for the Chicago metro area, as well northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana, and said the dangers would include the possibility of isolated tornadoes.

Forecasters at the NWS said thunderstorms expected to sweep through the area this afternoon and evening could produce damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hour, quarter-sized hail, drenching rains and frequent cloud to ground lightning.
